What is Pilates?
Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century as a method to strengthen both the body and mind. Initially called “Contrology,” the system was designed to focus on precision, control, and concentration, which are essential to performing each movement properly. It is a low-impact form of exercise, making it accessible to people of all fitness levels. Pilates offers a full-body workout, with particular emphasis on the core muscles that support the spine, abdomen, and pelvis. By engaging these muscles, Pilates helps to improve posture, balance, and overall stability, reducing the risk of injury. It incorporates a variety of specialized equipment, such as the Reformer, Cadillac, and Stability Chair, which add resistance and help to target specific muscle groups. In addition to building lean muscle, Pilates is renowned for significantly improving flexibility, promoting long-term joint health, and increasing body awareness.
